Your privacy is very important to me. The law strongly protects the relationship between client and therapist. Unless a written release form is signed by you, under most circumstances, your privacy is protected. You may also revoke this release at any time.
It is important that you know that there are certain exceptions to these protections. I am required to contact appropriate authorities in the event of: 1) suspicion of abuse to a child or dependent adult under your care; 2) threat of serious bodily harm to self or 3) threat of serious bodily harm to others.
Under HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) national standards were set to protect your health record's confidentiality and security. I am legally bound to this standard of care.
It is important to note that when using medical insurance they have access to some aspects of your treatment; including, but not limited to; diagnosis, treatment goals and treatment length.
